FAU’s Theatre Lab is proud to present the world premiere of “Conversa” by Joanna Castle Miller from February 7-22, 2025!

Young Joanna knows all the Jewish prayers – and how they’re really about Jesus. That’s because, many years ago, her mother, who wanted to be a rabbi, converted to evangelicalism through Jews for Jesus. As a result, young Joanna learns all the tricks of Christian missions, eventually becoming a missionary herself. But when something ancient draws her away, to the traditions she never learned and histories she never studied, she finds herself in a tiny village where, centuries ago, her father’s father’s father faced a similar crossroads and made a very different choice.

Castle Miller, a playwright, performer, and expert in the Jewish History of Spain, performs this one-woman, tour-de-force, auto-biographical tale of her upbringing in the evangelical church and subsequent return to Judaism. A special finalist with the Jewish Plays Project, the title references the term used to describe those Jews who converted to Christianity around the time of the Inquisition rather than face exile from their homeland. CONVERSA is about identity, migration, change, and the echoes of history which call us home.

Directed by Matt Stabile. Executive Producers: Mandell Weiss Charitable Trust, Linda and Joe Satz-Trustees.

Young Joanna knows all the Jewish prayers – and how they’re really about Jesus. That’s because, many years ago, her mother, who wanted to be a rabbi, converted to evangelicalism through Jews for Jesus. As a result, young Joanna learns all the tricks of Christian missions, eventually becoming a missionary herself. But when something ancient draws her away, to the traditions she never learned and histories she never studied, she finds herself in a tiny village where, centuries ago, her father’s father’s father faced a similar crossroads and made a very different choice.

Castle Miller, a playwright, performer, and expert in the Jewish History of Spain, performs this one-woman, tour-de-force, auto-biographical tale of her upbringing in the evangelical church and subsequent return to Judaism. A special finalist with the Jewish Plays Project, the title references the term used to describe those Jews who converted to Christianity around the time of the Inquisition rather than face exile from their homeland. CONVERSA is about identity, migration, change, and the echoes of history which call us home.

Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre festival. However, the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try to create something new with the help of their friends Susan, Heidi and Larry on the eighty-eights. With the cast in place, Jeff and Hunter begin a conversation about what to write about. Eventually, Jeff suggests they write about what to write about. Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre festival. However, the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try to create something new with the help of their friends Susan, Heidi and Larry on the eighty-eights. With the cast in place, Jeff and Hunter begin a conversation about what to write about. Eventually, Jeff suggests they write about what to write about. They make a pact to write up until the festival's deadline and dream about the show changing their lives. [title of show] ‐‐ taken from the space on the festival's application form which asks for the [title of show] ‐‐ follows Hunter and Jeff and their friends on their journey through the gauntlet of creative self-expression the span of 90 minutes they write and perform their show at the festival and learn lessons about themselves as people, friends and artists.

FAU’s Theatre Lab is proud to present the world premiere of “Conversa” by Joanna Castle Miller from February 7-22, 2025!

Young Joanna knows all the Jewish prayers – and how they’re really about Jesus. That’s because, many years ago, her mother, who wanted to be a rabbi, converted to evangelicalism through Jews for Jesus. As a result, young Joanna learns all the tricks of Christian missions, eventually becoming a missionary herself. But when something ancient draws her away, to the traditions she never learned and histories she never studied, she finds herself in a tiny village where, centuries ago, her father’s father’s father faced a similar crossroads and made a very different choice.

Castle Miller, a playwright, performer, and expert in the Jewish History of Spain, performs this one-woman, tour-de-force, auto-biographical tale of her upbringing in the evangelical church and subsequent return to Judaism. A special finalist with the Jewish Plays Project, the title references the term used to describe those Jews who converted to Christianity around the time of the Inquisition rather than face exile from their homeland. CONVERSA is about identity, migration, change, and the echoes of history which call us home.

Set on a mystical island, the play follows Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, who uses his magical powers to conjure a tempest that shipwrecks his enemies, including his treacherous brother Antonio and King Alonso of Naples. As the story unfolds, Prospero's daughter Miranda falls in love with Ferdinand, the King's son, while Prospero confronts his past and ultimately chooses forgiveness over revenge.

Lynn University Drama is proud to present “Into the Woods” from February 20-22, 2025!

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

FAU’s Theatre Lab is proud to present the world premiere of “Conversa” by Joanna Castle Miller from February 7-22, 2025!

Young Joanna knows all the Jewish prayers – and how they’re really about Jesus. That’s because, many years ago, her mother, who wanted to be a rabbi, converted to evangelicalism through Jews for Jesus. As a result, young Joanna learns all the tricks of Christian missions, eventually becoming a missionary herself. But when something ancient draws her away, to the traditions she never learned and histories she never studied, she finds herself in a tiny village where, centuries ago, her father’s father’s father faced a similar crossroads and made a very different choice.

Castle Miller, a playwright, performer, and expert in the Jewish History of Spain, performs this one-woman, tour-de-force, auto-biographical tale of her upbringing in the evangelical church and subsequent return to Judaism. A special finalist with the Jewish Plays Project, the title references the term used to describe those Jews who converted to Christianity around the time of the Inquisition rather than face exile from their homeland. CONVERSA is about identity, migration, change, and the echoes of history which call us home.

Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre festival. However, the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try to create something new with the help of their friends Susan, Heidi and Larry on the eighty-eights. With the cast in place, Jeff and Hunter begin a conversation about what to write about. Eventually, Jeff suggests they write about what to write about. They make a pact to write up until the festival's deadline and dream about the show changing their lives. [title of show] ‐‐ taken from the space on the festival's application form which asks for the [title of show] ‐‐ follows Hunter and Jeff and their friends on their journey through the gauntlet of creative self-expression the span of 90 minutes they write and perform their show at the festival and learn lessons about themselves as people, friends and artists.

Lynn University Drama is proud to present “Into the Woods” from February 20-22, 2025!

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

As the story unfolds, Prospero's daughter Miranda falls in love with Ferdinand, the King's son, while Prospero confronts his past and ultimately chooses forgiveness over revenge.

Lynn University Drama is proud to present “Into the Woods” from February 20-22, 2025!

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

FAU’s Theatre Lab is proud to present the world premiere of “Conversa” by Joanna Castle Miller from February 7-22, 2025!

Young Joanna knows all the Jewish prayers – and how they’re really about Jesus. That’s because, many years ago, her mother, who wanted to be a rabbi, converted to evangelicalism through Jews for Jesus. As a result, young Joanna learns all the tricks of Christian missions, eventually becoming a missionary herself. But when something ancient draws her away, to the traditions she never learned and histories she never studied, she finds herself in a tiny village where, centuries ago, her father’s father’s father faced a similar crossroads and made a very different choice.

Castle Miller, a playwright, performer, and expert in the Jewish History of Spain, performs this one-woman, tour-de-force, auto-biographical tale of her upbringing in the evangelical church and subsequent return to Judaism. A special finalist with the Jewish Plays Project, the title references the term used to describe those Jews who converted to Christianity around the time of the Inquisition rather than face exile from their homeland. CONVERSA is about identity, migration, change, and the echoes of history which call us home.

Doug Mills is the senior photographer in the Washington Bureau for The New York Times, focused on the White House. He’s photographed presidents and presidential campaigns for four decades, first for United Press International and The Associated Press and since 2002 as a member of The Times’s Washington bureau. Mills recently won his third Pulitzer Prize for photography with coverage of the assassination attempt of President Donald Trump in Butler, PA.

Dance icons Melanie Hamrick, Joanna DeFelice, and Christine Shevchenko bring their exhilarating dance production back for its Festival Boca Three-pete. Live Arts Global was formed by three female artists who work to spread art and dance to a wider audience:

Festival favorite Doris Kearns Goodwin, one of America’s most popular historians, returns for a fascinating talk about The Enduring Significance of the American Revolution: A Historical Perspective, in conversation with Dr. Robert Watson from Lynn University. 

Goodwin is a world-renowned presidential historian, public speaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning, New York Times #1 best-selling author. Last year, she shared with us the story of her eighth book, An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s. This year, as the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution approaches, she reflects on how Americans have commemorated the nation’s founding – and how those commemorations have evolved with shifting values, struggles, and aspirations. Drawing from pivotal moments and collective memory, Goodwin will explore how each era has reinterpreted the Revolution’s legacy to meet the needs of its time, revealing as much about the present as the past.

Dr. Arthur Caplan is a leading author, expert, advisor, and honoree in the fields of science, medicine, and ethics will explore the inexplicable war being waged on America’s public health and scientific research communities – communities that have been the envy of the world, and that have been so effective and vital for the health of our nation. 

Caplan will discuss how we are all endangered when ideology drives public policy and science. And of course what citizens can do about it.

The author or editor of 35 books and more than 880 papers in peer reviewed journals, Caplan has virtually unparalleled national experience to speak on all these issues. His books include Vaccination Ethics and Policy, with Jason Schwartz, and, Getting to Good: Research Integrity in Biomedicine, with Barbara Redman. 

Currently serving as the Drs. William F. and Virginia Connolly Mitty Professor and founding head of the Division of Medical Ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Department of Population Health in New York City, Caplan has been widely honored for his contributions to health care, ethics, and science, serves on numerous medical advisory panels, and has been repeatedly recognized as one of the country’s most influential thinkers on science and medicine.

Conrad Tao was just 13 years old when he literally “saved Festival Boca” as a last-minute replacement for an ailing pianist. And his rendition of Mozart's Concerto No. 20 brought down the house (he gave a "winning performance," The Wall Street Journal said). Tao has since gone on to international fame for his virtuoso piano performances.

So we couldn't think of a more ideal pianist to bring back for our 20th Celebratory Season. He will wow us with Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue as well as one of his own original compositions.

This will also be the night we announce and present awards to this year’s Festival Boca Music Competition (piano).

Patti LuPone is a living legend of stage, screen, and popular culture, widely regarded as one of the greatest Broadway performers of her generation, and one of the most influential actors in musical theater. 

Known for playing bold, resilient women in musical theater, LuPone has received three Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and two Grammy Awards. Inducted to the American Theater Hall of Fame she has been one of America's leading stars since her debut on Broadway in “Three Sisters” in 1973.

Jazz Combos have played a significant role in the history of jazz, particularly as the big band era waned and smaller, more intimate groups gained popularity. These ensembles provide a valuable training ground for musicians to develop their improvisational skills, learn to interact with other musicians, and explore the nuances of jazz harmony and rhythm. Not only are they a vibrant and essential part of the jazz tradition, but they also offer a space for creative expression, improvisation, and close musical collaboration.
