From Rapture to Rupture: The Hollywood Backdrop’s Legacy in a Digital World

  • Boca Raton Museum of Art 501 Plaza Real Boca Raton, FL, 33432 United States (map)

Join the Boca Raton Museum of Art for “From Rapture to Rupture: The Hollywood Backdrop’s Legacy in a Digital World” on June 5th!

Consider the historical significance of the Hollywood Backdrop in light of new trends in digital cinema with Dr. Stephen Charbonneau, Associate Professor of Film Studies at FAU. He suggests that the legacy of hand-painted backings can be seen and felt in the onscreen digital worlds of today.

While the movie industry’s reliance on hand-produced backdrops has faded, today’s film professionals shape their virtual techniques on the 20th century artists’ spatial sensibilities.

This programming is made possible in part with the generous support of the Wyeth Foundation for American Art and our Leadership Fund Donors.
